The Pyromaniac - Custom Rock Guitar

Custom Electric Guitar with Flametop & FireBurst Finish

The Pyromaniac is a one-off guitar custom made by luthier Garry Knight. It includes humbucker pickups and a Piezo bridge for acoustic sound. The body top is finished in a unique burst finish that fades from red to yellow at the edges, unlike traditional bursts that fade to the darker color at the edges, this finish color is hand stained into the top prior to clearcoating.

Body & Hardware

Guitar Body & Finish

The Pyromaniacs' guitar body is made from a bookmatched curly/flamed maple, carved top with a swamp ash , two-piece back. The top is carved into a shape totally designed and conceived by Garry. A variety of carved features include a comfortable rear tummy cut, neck heel and top with scallops. The body is finished in a cherry red back with natural, scraped edge on the top maple. The top is stained red to yellow from the inside to the outside, before clearcoating in nitrocellulose.

Hardware

All hardware, including the L.R.Baggs Pizeo saddle, hardtail bridge and Gotoh Tuners are finished with chrome plating. Strap buttons are flushmount Dunlop Straplocks.

Pickups & Signal Controls

Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbuckers (passive) are installed. The hotter JB humbucker in bridge position and the clean Jazz humbucker in the neck. Controls include independant volume controls for each pickup and a single tone control. Pickup selection is by a three-way pickup selector switch.

Piezo Bridge & Preamp

The piezo bridge is an L.R.Baggs hardtail bridge thuat is backed up by the Ctrl-X preamp. The preamp allows mixing through the guitars output jack in mono mode or as a stereo output that can be split into two seperate amps. A three-way toggle switch allows selection of magnetic, piezo or mixed output when in mono mode.

Neck & Hardware

Neck construction

The neck is made from a flatsawn piece of plain maple that is capped by a Macassar Ebony Fingerboard with a 12 inch radius. The EVO alloy frets are gold colored and harder wearing than traditional nickel. The Pyromaniacs' neck includes a two-way truss rod (adjustable at the neck heel) and two internal carbon fiber shafts to improve stiffness. The combination of truss rod and carbon fiber shafts make a very stable neck that needs little adjustment through the changing seasons.

The headstock is a 10 degree angled, conically shaped headstock with a three plus three arrangement of its six Gotoh 510 Delta series tuners.

The inlays are our own special shape of a double flame made from Paua Abalone.

The nut is handcut from a smooth, hard Wooly Mammoth Ivory blank.
